Alberta Children's Hospital

Service Description / Contact Information

What to Expect

Staff from the Pre-Admission Clinic will call you between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. one to two weeks before your child’s surgery. Keep a phone nearby and ensure your contact information is up to date.

The nurse will ask you questions about your child’s health history and explain how to get your child ready for surgery. They will also be able to answer any questions that you may have.

When We Call

Have the following ready:

  • Your child’s provincial healthcare card
  • Guardianship papers for the child (if applicable)
  • A list of all the medicines that your child takes. This includes over the counter medicines like vitamins and herbal supplements. If you need help with the list, you can ask your pharmacy for a printout or use Medication Lists and Tools.
  • Paper to write down instructions that the nurses provide to you.
