What is Better Choices, Better Health®?

Living with a long-term (chronic) health condition can be hard. Better Choices, Better Health® is a free group workshop for adults who live with or support someone with a chronic health condition. Choose between one of two workshops:

  • Better Choices, Better Health® - Chronic Disease: for those with conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, arthritis, gastrointestinal (GI), depression, long COVID-19 and others.
  • Better Choices, Better Health® - Chronic Pain: for those with conditions like fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome, persistent pain, migraines, arthritis and others.

What is Self-Management?

Get Involved. Become a Leader

Help Albertans have a better quality of life by becoming a Better Choices, Better Health® Leader. This program will provide you with the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many Albertans with your compassion for others living with chronic conditions and your real-life experiences.

Who Can Volunteer?

If you would like to join the Better Choices, Better Health® family, you must:

  • be 18 years of age or older.
  • have some experience with chronic health conditions – either yourself or by supporting a family member, friend or loved one.
  • be compassionate and non-judgmental.
  • be able to model good self-management skills.

What to Expect:

Leaders deliver evidence-based information, lead discussions, and model self-management skills. As a Leader, you will:

  • attend free training offered by Alberta Health Services.
  • lead a six-week workshop with an experienced co-leader.
  • maintain your certification by leading at least one workshop series per year.
