Addiction and mental health crisis supports expanded

April 24, 2024

PROVOST – Local and area residents now have improved access to addiction and mental health services as a crisis response team expands availability at the Provost Health Centre emergency department (ED).

The team of Alberta Health Services (AHS) addiction and mental health clinicians – including mental health therapists, registered nurses and addiction counsellors – will be on-call during evenings and weekends to consult in-person with physicians and provide consultation to patients who arrive at the local ED needing specialized crisis support.

The crisis response team provides on-call support during peak times on weekends and is available Fridays from 5 p.m. to midnight; Saturdays from 8 a.m. to midnight; Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on statutory holidays.

Community crisis response teams also operate in Wetaskiwin, Ponoka, Lacombe, Rimbey, Sundre, Olds, Innisfail, Wainwright, Drayton Valley, Vermilion, Camrose and Rocky Mountain House.

Supports are always available. Access Addiction & Mental Health (AAMH) is the access point for non-urgent addiction and mental health information and services. In Central Zone, call 1-888-594-0211.

For 24/7 support, call the Addiction Helpline at 1-866-332-2322 or the Mental Health Helpline at 1-877-303-2642. In an emergency, call 911 or visit the nearest emergency department.
